Sunday 9th Nov
From a chat between players back in the summer, the idea of a Tunbridge Wells Women's Masters Squad became reality today. TW have not entered a team into this competition for many years and what a good decision it was to do so.
Following a mid-week training session, where players who have known each other for years, but not played together for a long time (in fact some players haven't picked up a stick for a few seasons!), we soon got back into a rhythm. Canterbury were a tough opposition with most of their players still playing regularly together each week. They were pretty relentless in their attack and some outstanding defence and goalkeeping frustrated them, however we couldn't prevent the inevitable goals.
At half time, the score was 3-0 to Canterbury, but with Tunbridge Wells getting stronger together the more we played, the second half saw Canterbury restricted to just one goal. There were some tired bodies at the end of the match, and some more battered than others!
Everyone came back for a social gathering at the clubhouse which just proves that hockey is not just about playing but also about the fun and friendships.
We look forward to our next match in the Plate Competition!
