The sun was shining, the sky was blue but it was 'flipping freezing' according to our wise keeper Pothy. Players were stuck on the A21 (half the team) and so with little preparation (as the captain only managed to negotiate an extra 5 minutes from the original push back time), we lined up to face 3rd place Old Wills.
Starting strongly, we used pace to put pressure on the opposition's defence. Before long in the first half, the pressure paid off. The ball was slipped through from the top D, ending up with Corrie, who cooly kept her back to the goalie and turned the ball into the goal. Old Wills came back at us constantly, we faced lots of penalty corners but inspired goalkeeping from Pothy kept the scoreline in our favour, until a goal mouth scramble, with Charlotte and Kira desperately working couldn't stop the ball from bubbling over.
In all honesty the umpire was not our friend, especially when I was warned to only put my hand up if I needed the toilet! Despite the fact of the umpire telling me off, he did still give us the short we deserved.
The second half proved more frustrating and the space utilised by the midfield of Emma, Carolyn and Shelly became more congested. Irritatingly, a clearance from our D, was picked up in midfield by Old Wills who slipped it out to their left. A fine strike by the left winger found the backboard and so the scoreline remained. A frustrating loss!
