TWHC Ladies 3rd Xl hosted Sevenoaks this weekend in what is always a hard fought local derby.
Wells started brightly spreading the ball around at pace and creating several early chances and putting tremendous pressure on the Oaks defence.
Wells sustained the pressure and were awarded with the first goal after good build up play between Emma Robson, Shelly Lloyd and Carolyn Pollard in midfield the ball broke for Sarai Howkins who smashed the ball past the despairing Oaks keeper. 1-0
After 22 minutes and a lot more pressure from Wells, Oaks robbed the ball in the midfield and broke to a score the equaliser against the run of play, 1-1.
Howkins to the rescue again before half time with a speculative shot which bamboozled the keeper to make it 2-1.
The message was to keep the ball moving in the second half to ensure the lead was built on and so it proved as Sarai Howkins completed her hat trick with another well taken shot to make it 3-1. The celebration was sedate and understated as usual with no gold fish hat in sight!
Sevenoaks then woke up and began to put their physical strength into the match. For the first time the Wells defence had to sustain a lot of pressure and did so very well with Harriet Sacker maintaining a calm approach and clearing beautifully throughout the match ably supported by Chris Poth in goal and Kira Boulton, Jennie Bowler and Charlotte Rudman who put in many tackles.
With 2 minutes on the clock Sevenoaks scored a scrappy goal to make a tense finish but Wells deservedly won the match to lift themselves up the table after a shaky start to the season.
