Wolves Goal Rush

A good day’s work for the girls with a comfortable victory over local rivals Sevenoaks, making it two wins from two in the league. Top of the league as we head into the enforced Covid break!

The girls showed great intent from the start, penning Sevenoaks back and making it very hard for them to advance up the pitch, often stopping them making it into our half. Gigi, Grace, Gabby, Bailey and Willow all pressed well from the front to put their defence under pressure throughout. That pressure led to TWHC dispossessing them and creating several chances; with Gigi in the early part of the game creating the tempo for everyone to follow. TW also used the wings really well to attack which was good to see, rather than getting stuck through the congested middle. The goals were spread amongst the team with Grace H (2), Willow, Gigi and Gabby (playing up front) and Harriet and Jemima (from the midfield) finding the back of the net.

The middle of the pitch was controlled by Eliza and Jemima who broke up every ball that made its way past our forwards, effectively giving Sevenoaks no chance of possession. Both girls used masses of energy, tackling and carrying the ball up to the D, with Bella, Harriet, using the wide areas well to create space and attack Sevenoaks down the sides. So well done girls, you got through a ton of work to break down their plays and relaunch attacks.

Clearly on days like today, with so much pressure and dominance the defence had a quieter day - but on the 3-4 occasions when Sevenoaks did break through Ayla, Evie and Verity snubbed out any threat brilliantly, before immediately relaunching the counter attack again. I can think of one break in particular where Ayla tackled decisively before launching a long wing ball to Harriet that led to a goal.

Finally a special mention to Christabel, who excluding a short corner to defend wasn’t called upon, but kept her attention during the game and offered plenty of vocal support from the top of the D. A big thanks also to Rosie (Ayla’s younger sister) who came to help the squad given the flurry of late pull-outs. It was a real experience for her to see the pace and the extra physicality of an U13 game - so well done!

Big congratulations to all involved and keep it up when we return to league matches in December (fingers crossed) please.

Best Phil
