Wolves Hunt Down Marden

An excellent start to the league season for the TWHC Wolves, with a thoroughly deserved 1-0 victory over Marden.

The girls all performed really well, in what was their first real run out in an 11 aside, full pitch, 60 minute match. With limited chances before today to try out playing as a team, the concentration and desire of everyone involved made up for the temporary lapses in positional sense.

Playing four 15 minute quarters, The Wolves (TWHC) had good control of the game throughout creating several chances, eventually getting the well deserved breakthrough in the 3rd quarter - with a typical poachers finish from Willow Brattle. The team had several good phases in open play and opportunities to score - but just couldn’t quite register the advantage their play deserved.

At the other end of the pitch the defence was really well organised and very mean giving away only one real chance in open play, alongside Christabel being forced to make an excellent save from a penalty corner.

Going through the team; Christabel - well done for being super alert on the rare occasions you were called into action, good sweeping when needed and a great sharp short corner save.

Daisy, Bella, Verity - great work in the fullback positions - it requires a lot of energy, fitness and awareness - so keep going and well done on the excellent effort.

Evie, Eliza and Ayla in central defence - excellent aggression in winning those 50/50 balls and breaking up the Marden attacks, you were all brilliant at attacking those loose balls and starting up your teams attacks. You gave Marden very few chances.

Annabel, Ava, Lily and Harriet in the midfield - it's a hard role - getting up and down that big pitch - helping your defence and launching attacks and being up there to support your strikers - well done. You all covered a lot of ground - rest up those weary legs. You'll sleep well this evening.

Grace, Bailey and Willow - the team's cutting edge as the strike force - excellent defending from the front and also sharp counter attacking to put Marden on the back foot when launching the attacks. Just keep that composure in the vital moments and also keep that movement going to continue causing opposition teams problems. Well done and good energy for team.

All in all, an excellent first run out - congrats on the victory - the first of many!

Phil
