TWHC U13 girls away v Oxted

A late season April match, our penultimate tier 3 game, and rain rain rain! We were however lucky to avoid the torrential downpours from earlier in the morning.
All 3 coaches agree that this was the girls' best game all season; they truly played as a team.
4 quarters were played and the first 17.5 minutes was fairly even, with some breaks from Oxted, whilst Wells probably had more of the pressure.
We piled on more pressure in the 2nd quarter, with good attacks down both wings and great lead runs from our forwards; a rotation of Betsy, Erin, Katie and Eva. Our first goal came after some great link up play; a great pass from DK down the left wing for Erin who had made a great lead, the ball then came back out to our centre midfield Darcy who drive into the D with some wonderful skill to put in a pass for Betsy who took a shot; a scramble in front of goal and Erin was able to pop the ball in the back of the net; a real team goal.

Oxted were not without their chances and at times our marking was poor; but a special mention to Anna who worked tirelessly to defend, chase back and put in some crucial tackles to prevent Oxted from equalising.

Half time 1-0.

Some team changes were required at half time due to injury and all sorts (!), the team were dropping like flies!
We changed formation with 3 up front, Aurora making good use of the space on the right in her new right wing position. Eva confidently drove down the left with some great skills, and Erin had numerous goal chances, her positioning was excellent and she was unlucky not to get a second goal.

A great pass from our centre midfield into Thea allowed her to drive into the D and score from the narrowest of angles; well done!
Full time 2-0.

It was a really lovely game to watch, to coach, and a great opposition; thanks for the match Oxted.
My player of the match goes to Anna; incredible work rate, tackling back, distribution and dedication, well done. Darcy came a close 2nd; playing a pivotal role in the midfield and putting some great skills on display.

This was my last game coaching the girls as I'm unable to attend next week's game. It has been an absolute pleasure this year seeing the girls progress. A special thank you to Michael and Emma who have coached the majority of tier 3 games; and today Emma was there despite being on crutches; true commitment !
