A 2-2 draw for our TWHC team, a fair end result.
The girls were a little slow to start with Marden able to attack straight down the middle; too many players unmarked; something we will work on as this continues to be a challenge for us. Emilee L had an outstanding game and made some great saves to prevent Marden from gaining the lead.
The girls then started to settle into the game a little more, with some excellent mid field combination work from Darcey and Thea, and good midfield runs down both our left and right wings; lots of pressure on the Marden goal, with Katie L hitting the post!
Not long after, a great ball from the back from Cecily, through to our midfield and then forward line, Katie was not going to settle with a post this time and managed to slot the ball in the goal; a great finish and a 1-0 lead just before half time.
The second half saw another slow start with Marden able to pile on the pressure; Emilee consistently preventing them from getting an equaliser. Marking continued to be a challenge for the girls and it wasn't long before even Emilee couldn't stop the ball from hitting the back of the net. 1-1.
Marden quickly reacted to score another goal; this time a great hit from the top of the D. 2-1 to Marden.
The girls reacted well and their heads did not go down; Darcey worked her socks off both defensively and as an attacking midfielder with some lovely skill and passes through to our forwards. Not long to wait before we had a succession of short corners, and with Thea putting a powerful hit to the goalkeeper, Erin managed to slot the ball in the back of the net off the rebound; 2-2.
A special mention to Aurora; who played brilliantly as right midfield, forward and centre midfield; great work rate and driving down the wings to cause the Marden defence a lot of trouble.
Another special mention for Cecily who, from every 16, managed to hit the ball through the press to our midfields and forwards; great distribution!
Thanks to Phil for helping me with the umpiring, and to Coaches Keith and Emma on the sideline.
See you all next week!
