A 9am start - early for a Sunday morning (!) and cold conditions; the girls were a little slow to start and Ashford were quick to score a first goal. The girls' heads did not go down and they started to settle into the game a little more, playing some nice hockey, great transitioning work around the back by Lottie and Viv and good quick passing from midfield to our forwards. This enabled Anjalie to take a run into the D and score; a great finish in the top right hand corner of the net. The 1-1 score did not remain for long sadly as Ashford were able to score from a short corner.
We narrowly missed equalising just before half time with multiple chances for our forwards in the D.
The second half the girls were outstanding; they had 90% of the pressure and so many chances to score, but we struggled to find the back of the net and so the score remained at 2-1. We will work on attacking work in the D at our next training session so that we can make sure we take these chances next time!
A special mention to Anna for her excellent marking, Lottie B and Viv for their strong partnership at the back and excellent tackling, Maddie for her relentless hard work in midfield and defence.
The girls should feel very proud of their second half performance, and must also remember they are playing in an Under 14 league.
Thanks to Adam and Emma for your sideline support, and for the parents for the encouragement, hope you all managed to get home and get warm!
Well done girls,
Jen
