Girls U13's match against Epsom

This was the best game that the girls have played for Tunbridge Wells. Everyone of them excelled in all facets of the game.

They all played with intelligence on the ball and off the ball. Quick incisive passing and great decision making were the key parts to why we won today.

From the back we were strong and built passages of play where we would play around the back to attack on the opposite side from where the ball started. Jess, Emily F and Lilia all had immense games and helped restrict the number of shots getting through to Bertie. Their passes out from 16's and other defensive positions were quick and powerful enabling us to break through the oppositions first line of defence. On the wings we had Lucy and Claudia having powerful runs and working well with their wingers (Amelie, Elena and Abi). In the middle Lauren was a constant thorn in the oppositions side and marshalled the midfield with the aide of Clover and Cecily. Both grew into the game and became more influential as the game moved on.

Up front we worked so well together driving at the heart of their defence down the flanks and when the time was right picking the pass to one of our fellow forwards. Both Abi and Amelie with their close control and speed gave the opposition plenty of headaches. Then in the middle Safi was well supported by Elena. Between them they built up a great partnership and, whilst we scored five, just seeing the presence of mind to be working together and being in the right places was a joy to see.

All of our goals were through creative play and the appreciation of players being in good positions and setting them up.

Forgive me if i get the scorers wrong and in the wrong order. I need someone to mark this down through the game.

TW opened the scoring in the first quarter of the game when Elena from close range scored from a ball pulled back to her from the base line.

Epsom then equalised from a well taken short corner. However, we didn't drop our heads instead we carried on playing in the same style as we started. The second goal was created by some quick thinking by Jess from inside her half she saw Safi was free and picked her. Safi drove towards the 'D', but then Abi was free unmarked. She played the perfect pass and Abi put it away with some aplomb.

At half time it was 2-1. In the second half we upped our game even more although their were times that we could see tiredness creeping in with our decision making towards the end of the game. Anyway, we scored three more goals in the second half. Amelie broke down the right wing and drove into the D all the way through to the keeper and slotted it past her in the far corner. Towards the end of the third quarter we had another break on when Amelie put through Safi who had one defender and the goal keeper to beat but had Elena to her left for a simple pass to then shoot, but the whistle blew for the end of the quarter annoyingly. It didn't stop us as in the final quarter Abi scored her second and Safi got her well deserved goal.
