Firstly, I want to say thank you so much to Stuart for managing and coaching the girls today at the match. Stuart was not feeling that well and upon getting home after the game he has been laid up. What a superstar.
Sevenoaks 1 TWHC 3
Our first win in the league and most certainly something we can build on. Scorers were Safi 2 and Amelie 1. (I think that's right)
Superb commitment from all, the girls should be so proud. Stuart was and he was sure the parents would have been too.
A solid effort in the first half saw no reward and we found ourselves 1-0 down. At half term we focused on remembering to play with width and identified that Sevenoaks where largely focusing on playing through the middle of the pitch. At half time this was discussed as well as ball retention. The next pass doesn't always have to go forward, look to utilise the support from behind you. Not always, but when appropriate.
There were many fine examples of this, but it's an area we must look to improve on.
Returning to the second half, the team were impressive in that they didn't panic at being 1-0 down. We attacked with purpose and our forwards exposed their defence with their width and speed. We were soon level. Taking the lead soon after, we then became passive keen to hold a lead, but not to press for more goals. This resulted in a number of short corners awarded to Sevenoaks. However, the defence supported by the midfield held firm. From this we had another swift counter attack where we clinically got the third.
No girl has been singled out in the report as there were moments of brilliance by each of them. They performed fantastically and walked off the pitch visibly lifted by the result. It's amazing what a win can do for a team, particularly when they doubt themselves against older opposition. This proves that can mix with the teams in the league if we focus on our strengths and commit to what the coaches are trying to instil in them in the various facets of the game. Let's remember that winning feeling and how we achieved and we go again.
WELL DONE GIRLS !!!!!!!!
