Double header v Canterbury and Epsom

The U16 girls travelled to Epsom for a late Sunday triangular with Canterbury. We played Canterbury first who had just defeated the hosts 2 - 0 and opened the scoring within ten minutes with a smart finish from Harriet. Playing with just one sub and girls having to play out of position the TW team looked invincible in the first half. moving the ball wide and tearing the Canterbury defence apart with clean passing and excellent moving. Bella doubled our score before half time with a superb reverse stick touch on a cross which took the ball over the keeper.
The second half was a different story; Canterbury moved their players around and we found it hard to keep possession and clear our lines in defence. With a couple of great saves and some circle scrambles we managed to keep a clean sheet and hold on to our 2 - 0 lead to the end.

Against Epsom we started slowly, found that every 50/50 ball or bobbled pass seemed to land cleanly on an Epsom stick and were 1 - 0 down within minutes of the push back. The girls fought hard but the rest that Epsom had had paid off and they scored 2 more well worked goals to win 3 - 0. We had some chances in the game and if one of the shots which rebounded off the post had actually made it to the back of the net our confidence would have been bolstered. However it was not to be and Epsom deserved their win.

Well done to all the girls for taking the time out of their Sunday schedule to play. At times you were brilliant and every girls played their part.
