Under 12 Girls

The girls sadly did not get into medal matches today; it’s probably fair to say that the end results do not reflect the day’s hockey nor reflect on our girls’ ability.

TW v Canterbury 1-1
The girls started well with numerous attempts at goal but sadly unable to convert them into goals. A break away from the pressure and Canterbury caught our defence unaware, 1-0.
The girls fought back and continued the pressure; many efforts at goal; some great passes from Lottie at the back through to Charley on the right, driving into the circle for our forwards. Anjalie was able to intercept a defensive play out and equalise. The girls put them under more pressure but there was simply not enough time to get the win they deserved.

TW v Surbiton L 3-0
Surbiton ended up winners of the tournament. Despite TW having numerous chances to score, with some lovely passes from both Lottie and Anjalie to Charley and Mia, it seemed their luck was not in today. Surbiton scored their first from some scrappy defending and then played some excellent hockey to score empty net goals; Emilie did brilliantly and prevented many more goal scoring opportunities.

TW v Cambridge 0-0
The girls played their best hockey in this game; credit to the Cambridge GK who saved numerous shots. Betsy had her best game of the tournament and marked her socks off! Lottie played some brilliant through passes for Charley to control and drive into the D; our forwards sadly unable to convert. Vivienne had a great game with tight marking and stepping up. Anjalie had a good go at some lovely reverse stick shots, but goals were just not to be had in this game.

TW v Sevenoaks L 1-2
Sadly, a slow start meant Sevenoaks took the lead quickly. The girls were all over them after that and quickly scored an equaliser; Anjalie slotting the ball in the top of the net. Some great driving runs from both Maddie and Charley working hard creating plenty of opportunities for our forwards to score. Sevenoaks scored another break-away goal, but the girls reacted fast. A brilliant pass from Lottie to Charley saw Anjalie able to score; but for a reason unbeknown to Amanda (umpire) and I, the pass was disallowed.

TW v Holcombe W 6-0
This was a development Holcombe side so goals came aplenty. Some lovely goals from Mia and Daisy.

TW v Wimbledon L 0-1
Theme of the day- Girls had all the pressure but were unable to convert. Wimbledon took their chances and Emilie had a stormer of a game to ensure it was only a 1-0 loss.

I do not want the girls to feel disheartened after today. They have had a great season with a bronze medal at the Kent champs. Today they had so many goal scoring opportunities but just didn’t convert them. Goal side marking is still something we need to work on but did improve each game. An absolute special mention to our amazing GK Emilie who is playing a year up and showcased her ability. And thank you to the amazing supportive parents!

Well done to Emilie, Vivi, Lottie, Charley, Anjalie, Maddie, Betsy, Daisy and Mia (and DK and Lucie who were unable to join us today). A massive thank you to Amanda for umpiring, I am forever grateful.

Girls you have had an incredible season and should feel extremely proud of yourselves. You are an absolute joy to coach, to interact with and to watch; and I believe you have the potential to do so much more! Enjoy your summer break, here’s to another successful season next year.
