Firstly, an enormous thank you to the coaches, Emma, Michael and Jen ably supported by Adam. Your commitment and dedication to ensuring that the girls enjoyed the Kent Championships, and that all our teams tried to play hockey the right way, is immense and appreciated.

The Cheetahs and Tigers both played in the Development Tournament and were slightly handicapped by late dropouts meaning they were down to the proverbial bare bones in terms of player numbers. This did not dampen their spirits and the level of effort and hard work for each other was fantastic particularly the Cheetahs who did not have a GK on the day.

TW Cheetahs

The Cheetahs results in the Development Tournament were:

0 – 5 loss v Canterbury Green (the eventual winners)
0 – 1 loss v Burnt Ash (very unlucky goal conceded)
2 – 0 win v Anchorians (lovely goals from Kitty and Anaia)
0 – 3 loss v Marden Red
0 – 1 loss v Gore Court - This was the performance of the day, the girls played SO well against the team that came second. They had about 4 or 5 chances well saved by the Gore Court keeper, whereas the goal they conceded would have been saved had the Cheetahs had a GK. Sadly the Cheetahs lost the playoff match against the other Marden team.

TW Tigers

The Tiger’s results in the Development Tournament were:

1 – 0 win v Maidstone (Erin B)
1 – 0 win v Marden Blue (Erin B)
0 – 0 v Canterbury Red
0 – 0 v Folkestone
0 – 2 loss to Sevenoaks

This meant they came second in their group and were into a 3/4 play off where they beat Gore Court 1 – 0 with a goal from a penalty flick after some good pressure. This meant the Tigers won the Development Tournament bronze medal, amazing !!

TW Panthers

The Panthers were in the main Kent Championship and the girls had a really terrific day, their results were:

1 – 1 draw v Knole Park (Daisy J)
0 – 3 loss v Sevenoaks U12
3 – 0 win v Sevenoaks U11 (Vivienne 2, Anjalie)
3 – 0 win v Marden Yellow (Anjalie 2, Betsy)
3 – 0 win v Marden Green (Anjalie 2, Charlotte)
0 – 2 loss v Ashford
3 – 0 win v Canterbury (Anjalie 2, Charlotte)

The girls played some fantastic hockey during the morning kicking off with a very hard-earned draw against a strong Knole Park team with Lucie making a number of crucial saves (this was the opposition that had defeated the girls in U10 Kent Championship final pre-Covid).
For some reason this momentum did not transfer into the next game against Sevenoaks who ran out comfortable winners, but the girls got back on track with three wins in a row including Vivienne scoring her first goals for the team against Sevenoaks. Again, the girls could not take this momentum into the next game against Ashford and were left ruing a below par performance before finishing their tournament in style with a comprehensive win over Canterbury including a stunning strike from Anjalie slapping an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.

The day was all about teamwork, commitment, the character to bounce back after a disappointing result, and the Panthers were rewarded with the Kent Championship bronze medal.
