Being 1-0 down in 2 minutes is not your ideal way to start a game particularly on the back of our first loss of the season last week. However, one thing I do not doubt is the resilience of this side and by half time we had fought back to lead 2-1 with Mack finishing skilfully from a difficult angle the highlight. We were missing 4 of our boys and 1 of our seniors due to half-term commitments so it took a while for the makeshift side to gel and Marden were playing well and creating problems for us. We moved from a full press to a three quarter press and committed to front marking which reduced us being bypassed in midfield by the oppo's effective long ball.
The second half saw us score 5 goals and concede 0 to ensure a 7-1 scoreline. To be fair this flattered us as it was more of a competitive game than this suggested. Ollie Bateman, a role model on the day for our younger junior scored a hat-trick, Mack added a penalty flick and our short corner routine was very effective with 5 goals overall being converted. It was good for Josh Taylor and Ethan Gillespie to gain significant playing minutes with us and they performed well. A pleasing day, still tight at the top so the winning habit must continue !
