The Boys final league game before a well earned break. Yet again we lined up against a rugged, adult only team who were keen to win. A mistake of our own making gave the opposition a 1-0 lead but this spurred us on to one of our most complete performances. Within 15 minutes of conceding we were 3-1 up with the highlights being Mack scoring a composed flick and George slotting home from a well constructed circle entry. What was more impressive was the domination of ball possession, we regained it with our press, held onto it and continually moved the opposition from side to side ensuring we found gaps to create chances. The lead running was excellent, it must be exhaustive marking our rotated midfielders and forwards as they constantly roam the pitch !
There were no poor spells for us after conceding the goal and the boys intelligence when off the ball as well as on the ball paid dividends as we mounted attack after attack. 3 more goals (with the boys contributing 2 of them via Mack & Tommy) after half time came and at one stage myself, Nick & Scott all watched from inside our own 25 as the boys ran the match for the last 10 minutes.
I had a sneaking feeling our Boys would compete strongly in this league but certainly hadn't envisioned being unbeaten and only dropping 2 points at the half way stage. Challenges will await us after Christmas as teams will now approach us differently but the Boys will be prepared for that challenge and will continue to learn and improve.
Thank you to James Barber for stepping in to bolster numbers at late notice, to Chris & Marvo for umpiring very well and to Ed for running the side for me. Festive greetings to one and all !
