Tunbridge Wells ladies 1st team had an excellent game on Saturday against Ashford. Playing at home the girls came out confident and keen to get 3 points on the board.
They channelled a good warm up and team talk led by Leigh into the match and Amelia kicked the game off to the best possible start, scoring a great goal in the first few minutes!
The team knew they had to keep this momentum up and did well to keep most of the play in our attacking 25. Ollie played well in the middle distributing the ball from side to side, trying to break through into the D.
The break came and Issy, normally a 2s player but certainly proved her place in the 1s had an amazing game and found space in the circle and got a shot away in the back of the net. The umpires saw something we didn’t however and after all the congratulating unfortunately the goal wasn’t allowed.
The half time team talk gave the girls back their composure and they ran back onto the pitch trying to extend the lead. Ashford also did the same, they put up a good fight and it was an exciting game of hockey for the crowd.
A fast ball in from the defence and excellent passing up the pitch from the midfields, led to Issy finally scoring her well deserved goal - a great team effort.
A 2-0 lead had Tunbridge Wells excited but needing to keep pushing as Ashford were finding some gaps in our otherwise impressive press. The opposition did manage to break through into the circle, the defence worked hard to keep it out but a cross over in front of the line led to a penalty flick and a goal for Ashford.
With only a few minutes to go the home side got the win and the 3 points in the pouring rain.
Well done to everyone this weekend!! Top effort from us all especially to this weeks 'man of the match' Issy who will hopefully be sticking around in the 1s for the rest of the season!
