Another win for Tunbridge Wells Ladies 1st team!
The girls were out early for their match against local rivals, Sevenoaks, this Saturday and put on an impressive performance for their spectators!
They started the game extremely strong and secured a goal within the first few minutes by the teams captain, Lily Loveland. Channeling this adrenaline, they kept up their good hockey and with some impressive play down the right hand side of the pitch, Harrie Alexander was able to extend the lead with another great goal. Sevenoaks kept their composure however and with some strong hits sneaking through our press managed to get a quick break that lead to a nice goal from the opposition. Towards the end of the 1st half both teams were fatiguing but Twels were persistent and an unlucky touch of a Sevenoaks defenders foot on the line led to an exciting penalty flick. Gigi Barker was quick to take this and confidently extended the away teams lead to 3-1.
After a really positive half-time team talk by Captain Lily and Coach Leigh, the girls came out raring to go and managed to win an early short corner. Having worked on their second phase goal scoring and short corners at training, the girls put this to good use and Lily scored again with a deflection. The second half involved more defensive work for Tunbridge Wells, they showed an excellent display of teamwork, working hard for each other to track back and continuous tight marking. As well as some excellent saves from their keeper, Ali.
Immy Jenner made an excellent break from a 16yard hit out with some impressive ball skills all the way up the pitch and into the attacking D. Not stopping there she was able to successfully add to the score line with another goal for T.Wells!
A brilliant game this weekend for all those involved and impressive win of 5-1. Well done girls, especially to Ele Cairns, this weeks ‘man of the match’. Thank you very much to the umpires and those that came out to support!!
