A cagey away fair, but coming back with the 3 points!

An away game against recently promoted Oxted 2nd XI, with several of their fringe 1s players making appearances...

Oxted came out the blocks firing finding all types of spaces within our pressing system and on multiple occasions entering the Tunbridge Wells D. Oxted scored the first from a drag flick from the top, the first time we have gone behind in a league game so far this season, but the resilience of the squad pushed on for us to find an equaliser shortly after by a Connor Poulain drag flick to the keepers right. Again, Oxted were finding space especially on the left hand side and managed to enter the T wells D resulting in another short corner that was also converted to Matt's left. Just towards the end of the half, a run down the right hand side by Charlie cable saw an unmarked Dom who smashed the ball into the bottom corner on the half volley, a real game changer, going into the half, 2 a piece.

At half time, a few encouraging words from Sam George were said and a slight change in defensive pressing allowed us to push on. Tunbridge Wells scored 3 goals in quick succession from Connor, Huntley and Charlie cable. Connor's goal came from a nicely worked corner routine and Huntley's and Charlie's goals came from some lovely counter attacking slick play.

The defensive unit consisting of Dan, Sam Holdsworth, Kyle, Harry and Connor stood strong, limiting the number of D entries for Oxted compared to the first half. Matt continued to make some great saves when required and even managed to make a save for the cameras to his right hand side. The forward line of Huntley, Dom, Headey and Bailey worked extremely hard in both pressing and on the counter attack, finding space within the Oxted defensive 23.

Unfortunately a slightly sneaky Oxted goal came with around 15 minutes to go making it 5-3, resulting in a slightly cagey last part of the game. Oxted were incredibly frustrated, putting in some pretty rash tackles all over the park.

Connor sealed his hatrick with a drag flick and a lovely solo run goal from Sam George with great link up play with Dom saw us seal the 3 points, winning 7-3. An awesome turn around from the first half performance.

Tunbridge Wells sit top of the table on 5 wins out of 5, with 23 goals scored and 4 conceded, a great start to the season.

Next week's cup game is against local rivals Sevenoaks 2s, Tunbridge Wells looking to retain the tier 2 cup.
