A tough fixture to start the season, with a game away at Blackheath, who finished 5th last year. The lads arrived, in full O'Neil's kit looking to take 3 points from the first game.
The game started with plenty of possession for Blackheath, but failing to get through the T wells strong press. They did manage to get through a few times through the aerial route but the Tunbridge Wells defence stood strong. Both sides had chances at the start of the game but it was through some silky hands via coach Sam George breaking through the Blackheath defence line to pass the ball to Dom who placed the ball into the bottom corner, only for Headey to steal the goal on the goal-line - they all count.
A slightly feisty end to the half ended with T wells 1-0 up. The lads continued to press hard from the front and Blackheath struggled to find any space. The second goal came from a swift move from the right with several forwards connecting well, a save off the GK was then put in at an acute angle by Huntley.
Blackheath managed to pull 1 back from a deflected drag flick off our number 1 runner. They also had additional chances but Matt wasn't phased and cleared the ball away. A counter attacking move from deep in our own half saw Bailey on his own upfront, 1 on 1 with the goalie, he spun and roofed the ball into top of the net. A wonderful finish with only a few minutes left on the clock.
A big 3 points were sealed from some hard graft defending. We look forward to welcoming Lewes next weekend at Tonbridge school at 1pm. All are welcome to watch.
