We departed to Canterbury with the bare 11 players so we knew we were in for a lot of running. This was ensured when we saw that our opposition had a squad of 15. We set off and played a reduced press that focused on cutting off their right channel and made them come down the left. This was effective and allowed us some respite as we weathered the first 15 mins. Canterbury took the lead in this period with a breakaway goal that was well finished off by their centre forward and their tails were up.
As we have all season, we reacted well. From that point on we did not concede a single corner and Matt only had one direct shot to save. We had to play in bursts but were effective when we did so. We began to turn them over in their half regularly and these platforms gave us a chance to counter quickly. This resulted in a deserved goal with Tim.S smashing in a cross from right wing that Housey muscled his way past the defender to meet and deflect in. We won 2 further corners and got close but could not quite get over the line.
A gritty performance and our juniors continue to stand up and lead from the front so well done to Seb, Sam, James & Zach.
