A real head scratcher this one. Canterbury had 3 shots on target and 2 short corners won in the whole game and came away with 2 goals. We have 20+ circle entries, 7 short corners and came away with 1 goal. To be fair, Canterbury were always in the game with a strong central spine that attacked well down the middle but in the main, we contained them well.
All season we have played very good hockey from our 16 to the opposition's D. In the D, we need to improve on a number of areas: (i) we need to be composed on the ball, making sensible decisions (ii) get shots off quicker and make them on-target (iii) there is an over-reliance on reverse shooting and we can protect the ball when we shoot from the forehand more (iv) the basics of pushing out at speed and stopping a short corner need to be mastered by more than just one player.
If we improve these skills, we will win more games. There is no game where we have not been in it or outclassed. We are a top 3 side if we get this right. A tough away trip to Cliftonville with a depleted squad but we have a track record of rising to the occasion when the odds are against us...
