For 60 minutes we were excellent in a challenging match against a team who had won 5 of 5 games to date. Everyone stepped up and we addressed the issues we had faced previously, marking closely, tracking runners and starting well. Our passing game was on point with Zach Olette and man of the match Freddie Hoare very influential in midfield. We built a 3-0 lead with 12 minutes to go with Cameron Green scoring a great individual goal, Max finishing off a great team move and Tim scoring a trademark drag flick.
So what happened....firstly Anchorians never gave up and were a fine team in their own right with their constant movement and direct passing posing a consistent threat. We conceded multiple (6) short corners, with needless attempted tackles outside of our own D which resulted in them punishing us twice with a neat deflection routine. We conceded the equaliser with 1 minute to go with this author misplacing a weak aerial which resulted in a smash into the D and a fine finish.
I refuse to be downhearted though, the last 2 weeks have seen us making a great stride forward in terms of our game-play and patterns and we had multiple other chances to score. If we play well, we are going to compete with anyone and are more than capable to challenge for the league. Our juniors continue to get great minutes in challenging games and they are improving week to week. We will continue to work on the issues that arise (this week will be channelling & tackling) and the results will come.
