An improved performance

A much improved performance apart from the initial 10 minutes where we conceded two sloppy goals. We got back to 2-1 through a 1980's smash it in from the top of the D short corner variation but then were the architects of our own downfall by turning over the ball to let Canterbury go 3-1 up. Back to 3-2 with a trademark Tim Sylvester drag flick but time was not our friend as it ran out when we were dominant.
However sometimes the progress made can compensate for the dropping of points. We reignited our passing game, transitioned the ball really well laterally and showed great character. The 2nd XI, in essence, is a development side with a focus on giving valued pitch minutes to our youngsters and improving their gamecraft. This is supplemented by some older heads to lend experience. There are clear gains being made as our youngsters look increasingly assured in possession, are making the right decisions when it comes to holding, passing or carrying and are worthy of their selection. Each week a new area crops up to improve on and this week it was marking, picking up midfield runners and forcing the opposition to pass backwards or sideways and being difficult to breakdown. As we continue to shore up these areas, the results will come. We now have a run of 3 games against top 4 opposition but if we can retain good availability and avoid injuries, we will be a match for anyone.
