First League Game

After too many months, the 2nd XI finally had a league game. A EH reorg has seen us land in the newly formed Invicta Men's League 1 and not a lot was known about our Gore Court opponents. The 2nd XI ethos has remained the same, a strong mix of 5-6 senior adults aligned with our Academy graduates providing the backbone of the side.
We dominated the first half, our quick passing and constant running opened up our opponents time and time again. We were rusty so the high number of circle penetrations did not result in the number of short corners and shots that we were targeting. However, David House scored a lovely PC drag flick finding the bottom right hand corner with precision. A series of one twos gave the old man of the side a simple tap in after Freddie Hoare had made a pinpoint pass after he received the ball in the D. 2-0 up, soon made 3-0 five minutes after the break when Seb Wright entered the D and shot from a narrow left angle causing a defender deflection into his own goal. Seb and his strike partner Sam Judge ran tirelessly up front and created the space and passing angles needed for the midfield.
A series of unfortunate events then led to us facing pressure - we lost Freddie to a nasty head injury, Angus Currie to a hamstring injury and then Seb to a yellow card. We conceded two PC's that were converted but employed a half court defence that allowed us to see out the remainder of the game.
In truth we should have run out as more comfortable winners but 3 points is 3 points and we will only get stronger !
