Boys vs Men

A key contest as 1st place played 2nd place in the League. The opposition were Gravesham, again, entirely made up of men and a motley and hardened looking crew at that. It would have been easy for the boys to be intimidated but in this case it proved to be boys vs men rather than a men vs boys scenario. To nullify their physicality the game-plan centred on playing around them with pace and avoiding going into contact. This relied on great team movement and typically playing the first pass we saw. We came out of the traps flying with a good toss win meaning we were playing with the rain at our backs. We were up 3-0 by half-time and had, in truth, demoralised the opposition who were not used to losing over recent seasons. We added a fourth early in the 2nd half to close off the game although Gravesham did score a good consolation goals with around 5 mins to go. This special group of juniors are really setting a standard for the rest of this league, they move the ball with increased confidence and retain it and frustrate the opposition who grow tired of chasing it. A couple of heavy challenges came in but the boys met the challenge and played even more determinedly. 3 of the 4 goals were scored by juniors - Mac with a cooly slotted flick, Zach with an assured finish in a goal mouth melee and George with a superb strike from the right hand side of the D on the turn that rocketed into the far corner. We welcomed back Zach, Toby & Tommy who put in strong performances. A true team effort and a thank you to the seniors who remain cornerstone points for this young side - Scott, Nick and Andy.
