... for the first time ever, a team from TWHC were (a) coached by Basil Brush; and (b) appeared on BBC Breakfast ... what happens next ?

Who would have thought this 3 months ago ... (never mind Lockdown)?

But it has happened and we are now into week 10 or 11 of our virtual sessions - maybe more as we lose count ...

We have had a stellar cast of guests ... and even fake guest if you include the coaches dressing up as the Spice Girls one week ...

We have been to the US, to Scotland, to Wales - and have Ireland and Sweden lined up in the coming weeks....

We have learned to sing, play the drums, listened to the bagpipes, met journalists, film stars, Olympians, World Cup winning Rugby Players, aspiring Olympians, Olympic Gold Medalists ... done #HouseworkKaraoke, gardening, cooking... and of course Basil Brush is now an honorary member of the Club.

Most importantly we have all had fun ... as have most of our guests, which is why most of them want to come back for another session ...

The one thing Lockdown has given us is time not just focussed on hockey ... and this time we have used to learn so much more about all the talents our Flyerz have. We would never wish that we were ever in this situation globally or here ... but we are and the one thing I can say, is that as a group our Flyerz will emerge closer and stronger for it all .

Despite the "easings", Lockdown of sorts will be with us at least until the end of July ... Let's as a whole Club think together and creatively as to how to make the best of where we are and what is likely in the coming couple of months ... Please give your thoughts and ideas to your team/club captains or Junior leads...

One final note - next week (8-14 June) is National #FlyerzWeek - we (ie TWHC) have been asked to run a virtual session on Zoom 10-11am on 13 June .. we have lots of GB internationals past and present lined up (and other guests) ... the aim is to make it the most attended ever Flyerz event in the UK ... so if you would like to support this and join the session - please email me here .

Be safe, be well and let's think about the best way we as a club can adapt and move forward in the coming weeks and months - I know you will/may have seen a lot from EH or other clubs on this ... unlike some others, we do not have our own pitch, so we will not be encouraging groups of 6 to gather (unless the 6 of you want to cover a full pitch hire cost ...) once we are permitted to get together in meaningful double figure numbers, this will likely change ... We will keep you posted; but do think about ideas for "socially distanced" hockey sessions as it is probable we will be able to run these before we can run normal game play training or matches...

Stay safe and well ... and if as a club we are smart enough to work out that Basil Brush is a good shout for an online session coach in Lockdown , I am sure we can come up with plenty to make our (likely step by step) progress from this back onto the pitch very successful.

Thks,

F
