The club has a thriving junior section – with more than 18 teams, and we have the ClubsFirst Accreditation from England Hockey which recognises the quality and depth of the club, especially at junior level. Coaching is held on Sunday mornings on the astros at Tonbridge School, and occasionally at Hawkenbury; the times and locations vary so you need to check on the training/teamsheet each week. There are also matches and tournaments, which are played throughout the season.
Parental consent forms must be filled in before you can come to training; the parental consent form is now a part of the membership form.
Please Note - we have heavy demand for places in girls age groups from school year 5 to 7. Please do not just turn up at a training session.
Our Pre-season letter contains a copious amount of information about our plans for the season
We will be entering teams at U16 and U14 for both boys and girls in Kent leagues and EH Cup, and for girls in the Home Counties leagues; U12 and U10 will play in monthly triangular tournaments. See the fixture list for the junior section; further details of junior fixtures will be updated as they emerge.
Trainging will resume on 9th September.
Coaching is generally in groups: U16/15 boys, U16/15 girls, U14/13 boys, U14/13 girls, U12/11 boys, U12/11 girls and U10/9/8/7 boys & girls. The basis of the groups is the age at 1st September 2018. Some of these groups may be combined for a session depending on numbers and pitch allocations.
Coaching will generally be at Tonbridge School for Girls and Mixed U10s; and at Kent College Pembury for Boys in the U12/14/16 groups .... and occasionally at Hawkenbury. Normally sessions are organised either: 9.30 to 10.45 or 10.45 to 12.00. However times and locations are liable to weekly changes so you need to check the training teamsheet on the website each week.
Parental consent forms must be completed before you can participate.
We do not run U18 teams for Boys and Girls; but encourage them to play for senior teams on Saturdays. Training for these groups is not on Sundays but at the Club’s senior mid-week training sessions (see information on men's and ladies' training).
You can contact the club's junior section co-ordinator for more information on junior training.
David Judge and Ben Allberry run an Academy for invited juniors in the U13/U14/U15 group: Kent College Pembury on Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. Please talk to you team coach if you would like to be involved.
There are often changes to training and match arrangements after the teamsheet has been posted, especially when there is inclement weather. Any changes will be posted on the website on the training schedule/teamsheet page.
I am always interested to hear from parents who are prepared to help, either with admin, coaching or umpiring and the club will fund training courses for umpires and coaches who are prepared to commit time to the club. It doesn't have to be a huge commitment. Could anybody interested please contact the junior co-ordinator
The England Hockey Single System is the route for development of players through to national level- The EH Player Pathway aims to provide the best possible talent development experiences for all players. Details can be found by clicking here.
TWHC runs the local junior development centre in partnership with Sevenoaks Hockey Club and Tonbridge Hockey Academy. The DCs are part of this single system and are the lowest step on the ladder towards representative hockey (county, regional, national etc). The DC is run as two-day training/assessment camps at the end of the summer holidays and the autumn half term. For more information speak to Alec.
