Senior Ladies
At TWHC we have 6 senior ladies' teams.
We run regular training sessions at different levels for the ladies' 1st and 2nd XI with Martin Rohan and Tony Gunn, and for all other ladies teams with our club coach.
Letter to the Ladies Section October 2009
A big welcome to the new season and a big hello to old and new members. We had an excellent season last year, the twos and fives were promoted in to the East League and Kent Division 5 respectively. Our successes have led to the creation of a sixth eleven - albeit a year earlier than intended due to a drop out in the 6th division. So with that firm base we hope for even better things this season.
We have been very lucky to gain a number of experienced players and others who have returned to the fold to fill the gap of the inevitable losses to university etc. AND we have 9 players who are pregnant - well in fact it is now only eight as Kira had her baby in September so many congratulations to her and John. There are new personnel in the ladies section, Lisa Fiddimore and Jen Hunt have taken over the reins of the 1's from Amanda and Ele, Di Dunmall has taken over the 2's from Sharon, Lou remains as Captain of the 3's , Emma Goff has taken over the responsibility of the 4's from a group captaincy last season, Denise remains with the 5's and Kim is looking after the 6's for the time being. Anyone who wishes to cut their teeth as a fledgling coach should get in touch! Kim Wolff stays as Chair of Selectors, I stay as Ladies Club Captain, and Denise has taken over the responsibility of Press Officer from Lisa Fiddimore and Lynne continues as Fixture Secretary. Congratulations to Denise and Lynne who were appointed as Honorary Life Members at the AGM. We wish everyone good luck in their new jobs. Jane Jordan works extremely hard with the general club membership role. If anyone could give time to help with the junior membership she would be pleased to hear from you.
We have several challenges this year. Primary amongst those is the desire for the 1's to get into the East Premier. We also plan to consolidate the position of the 2's and 3's and look to promotion for the 4's.
Player availability is a key concern. With six teams on the go it requires at least 73 players to be available each week. Successful teams require commitment from players. If we are going to build on last years' success commitment to playing and training is paramount. Remember, if you withdraw from a team it has an adverse effect on the rest of your fellow team members and other teams. Please inform your captain of your availability over a number of weeks, it makes selection easier and quicker. The answer, if questioned, 'I don't know for next week' is not very helpful to your captain. Please try and come knowing what you can or cannot do for the following weeks. Another thing to remember is, that if you are not available for the time of your normal team's game, then you maybe available for selection to another team. Your captain will know the times. REMEMBER YOU BELONG TO A CLUB NOT A TEAM. Selection happens on a Saturday evening, the team sheet goes onto the web-site on Monday evening for you to read it on a Tuesday so the turnaround is not long. Please make sure you tell your captain of your availability before you leave the pitch. And do not forget to confirm with you captain that you can play by text or email: she should not have to contact you. If you become ill during the week please warn your captain sooner than later that you may not be able to play. Don't leave it until Friday evening unless it is a real emergency.
Another big challenge is to use the new self-pass rule to the best effect. Please be kind to other players and the umpires until the rule is fully bedded in . Congratulations to Kim Wolff who has gained her Level 1 Umpire qualification recently. Good luck to Lou Bateman who is to be assessed later in the month. If anyone is interested in umpiring please let me know.
Club training on Wednesday ( 7.30 - 8.30) is run by Kim Wolff and is for anyone playing in the 3rd eleven and below. The turnout has been good so far. The 1's and 2's training is by invitation only from 8.30 until 10.00. Please try to attend, the more of your team that comes the better as there will be more opportunities for game play, strategy that can be applied in matches as well as improving skills and fitness.
Subscriptions if you have not paid yet, please do so asap. If you require kit it can be ordered through the web-site.
So, we hope you enjoy your hockey this season and look forward to seeing you at training, matches and social events.
